You’re a caring, compassionate person, ready to help those most in need. Why not make a career of it? We’ll give you the nursing skills and knowledge to help make a real difference in people’s health – and their lives.
Confederation College’s Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a joint program with Lakehead University. This offers the advantage of two institutions, each with our own rich history in nursing education. Students take classes on both campuses learning from nursing faculty with expertise in the broad scope of nursing practice. Together, we offer students a cutting-edge nursing program that prepares them for a career in modern health care.
Graduates of the nursing program are leaders and advocates for health in northwestern Ontario. In the baccalaureate nursing program students learn and transition through a transformative approach facilitated by the creation of environments that engage them as active, self-‐directed, and diverse learners. Through knowledge of self, others and contexts, students engage in relational practice to care for others. Students commit to core nursing values such as caring, integrity, respect, compassion, and social justice as the foundation of professional nursing practice.
Graduates of the Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing who plan to practice in Ontario go on to complete their College of Nurses of Ontario examinations before registering with the College. Once registered, they may go on to practice in a variety of settings including hospital inpatient units, outpatient clinics, specialty clinics, walk-in clinics, cancer care, renal care, family health teams, community care and others.
Graduates may also choose to continue their education in a variety of ways including getting a Masters and a PhD in Nursing, studying to become a nurse practitioner, entering the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (PHCNP) Certificate program and more.
The Canadian Nurses’ Association (CNA) also offers advanced certification after you have spent time working in a particular field.
