The Master thesis is an independent, scientific research work, which requires planning, dedication and teamwork of candidates, as well as a certain tolerance for handling obstacles and unexpected problems. The research activity primarily takes place in work groups (WG) at the department. An orientation phase serves for getting to know these WGs. However, the opportunity is also provided to perform research in external research groups and possibly at companies, naturally in coordination with the department.
Candidates are free to choose their field of work, in accordance with the opportunities. Typically, a WG is found independently and a topic is chosen in consultation with the advisors. A selection can be made from a broad range:
The Master's program in Physics prepares students for independent work as physicists in business, industry, scientific research institutes and public administration, as well as for a continuing doctorate program. Experience has shown that the professional fields of a physicist are very broadly diversified and therefore frequently range far into related scientific and other disciplines.

A course of study is physics-related if at least 90 credits have been achieved in physical subjects. The examination board (§ 16) can make admission contingent on additional academic performances and/or examination performances of 30 credits at maximum being produced. In this case, the program can be extended accordingly. |
